My areas of focus are mostly landscapes, wildlife, water and light reflections, machinery, buildings, and trees, mostly in my local neighborhood and vacation places. I shoot both realistic and abstract themes. I tend to think of my photos as paintings. The little square I see in my camera's viewfinder is the canvas. I try to see what is there and with clarity represent to the viewer what it was I saw in that instant of time, or longer. But I also want to give evidence of the emotional force that drew me to that particular scene.
I grew up on the East Coast, and ended up in Minnesota, at Macalester College. My wife and I have lived in Montana, Maryland, and now Massachusetts, where my interest in photography began. We have two kids.
The photo is of a red-tailed hawk.
